Online OCR, PDF to Word conversion and a PDF editor

ScanLex converts PDF to Word, scans to Word and photos to text right in your browser — free and with nothing to install. Text, tables and layout are all recognized, and the PDF editor lets you change the text right on the scan.

How do I convert a PDF to Word online for free?

Drag a PDF into the upload area, pick the Word (DOCX) format and click “Recognize”. About a minute later you download an editable document with tables and layout intact.

Can I extract plain text from a PDF or a scan?

Yes. Choose “Plain text (TXT)” or “Searchable PDF” and you get text you can search and copy. Scans and photographs are supported.

How do I edit a PDF online?

Upload the file, wait for recognition to finish and click “Fix on the scan” — the PDF editor opens. Click any line, type the new text and save the result as PDF. You can edit a PDF right in the browser, with nothing to install.

How do I change a PDF and keep its original look?

The editor works on the page image itself: only the corrected fragment is replaced, and the typeface, size and ink colour are matched to the document. Stamps, signatures, rules and the paper background stay as they were, so you can change a PDF invisibly — the output is an ordinary PDF. If you would rather rewrite the whole text, recognize the document into Word.

Can I upload several files at once?

Yes. Pick several files at once or add them one by one — they pile up in the list and are merged into ONE document: the pages follow the order of the files (use the arrows to reorder). Handy for assembling a document from separate photos of its pages: the output is a single Word file, not a pile of them.

Which formats are supported?

Upload: PDF, PNG, JPG, TIFF, BMP, WEBP up to 80 MB. Output: Word (DOCX), Excel (XLSX), TXT and searchable PDF.

Do I need to install anything?

No. Online recognition works in the browser on a computer, tablet or phone. For unlimited offline work there is the ScanLex app for Windows.

Uploaded files are stored temporarily and used only for recognition.
